Endovenous Laser Ablation

Endovenous laser ablation is the latest non surgical method for treating varicose veins.  A laser fibre is inserted into the abnormal varicose vein, the vein is surrounded by local anaesthetic, the laser is turned on and gradually withdrawn which causes the abnormal varicose vein to be instantly cauterised leading to the vein closing and shrinking away.

The laser can only be used on the straight component of the varicose vein and this area is normally not visible therefore the procedure is carried out with the aid of an ultrasound to visualise the abnormal part of the vein which cannot be seen on the skin surface.

The tortuous parts of the varicose veins are then injected with Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
